Volunteer With Us

At HEAL Omaha, volunteers are an essential part of bringing compassionate, relationship-centered care directly to people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in our community. Whether assisting on street outreach rounds, organizing supplies behind the scenes, helping with administrative tasks, or offering specialized professional skills, volunteers help make street medicine possible.

We welcome volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Medical experience is helpful for some roles, but many important volunteer opportunities do not require clinical training. Our team values empathy, reliability, professionalism, flexibility, and a willingness to meet people where they are with dignity and respect.

Volunteer Types

Direct Support

Direct outreach volunteers participate in street rounds by helping distribute supplies, connect with community members, and support the outreach team in the field. Volunteers help create a respectful and welcoming environment while assisting with items such as food, water, hygiene supplies, clothing, and basic necessities. No medical experience is required for many outreach roles.

Non-Clinical Support

Non-clinical volunteers help support the day-to-day operations that make outreach possible. Opportunities may include organizing and packing supplies, inventory restocking, administrative assistance, fundraising or event support, and transportation tasks such as errands or prescription pickups. These roles are essential to keeping outreach efforts organized and sustainable.

Medical and Clinical Support

Medical and clinical volunteers support patient care during outreach activities. Depending on experience, training, and licensure, volunteers may assist with triage, vital signs, basic wound care, patient education, and documentation or scribing support. Clinical volunteers may include healthcare professionals, students, and other trained medical personnel working within their scope of practice.

Skilled or Professional Support

HEAL Omaha also welcomes volunteers with specialized skills that support the organization’s mission behind the scenes. This may include interpreters and bilingual volunteers, especially Spanish speakers, as well as social workers, photographers, graphic designers, web or technology support, legal professionals, and others with professional expertise that can strengthen outreach and community engagement.
